Lodge Meeting - Dr. Dan Howard speaker

The Knights of Pythias Monte Bello Lodge No. 10 will meet on Monday, August 12 at the Mongolian Grill, 121 Cox Creek Parkway S., Florence. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting at noon, with speaker Dr. Dan Howard, who has retired from the academic community but is still very much involved with UNA. The public is invited. Dr. Howard holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Manhattan College as well as two (2) Masters Degrees “With Honors” and two (2) doctoral degrees from Indiana University; It was his honor and privilege for him to serve during the Vietnam War, in the United States Army, from 1971-1973. He has earned five (professional credentials) including Certified Governmental Fund Manager (CGFM), Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE); Certified Safety Professional (CSP); and Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). Dan has an academic career spanning more than 37 years and has sat in virtually all senior seats as a higher education Administrator ( e.g., CEO, COO, CRO, and CAA). He has also achieved the top academic rank (i.e., Tenured Full Professor) at both Arkansas State University (ASU) and at Louisiana State University in Alexandria (LSUA). Among other things, he has written more than 50 professional articles and obtained more than $25 million in grants and contracts for his employing institutions of higher education. Dan was humbled to receive the lifetime title of Chancellor Emeritus of LSUA, from the President (Dr. F. King Alexander) and Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University. He is an active member of the Knights of Pythias- Monte Bolo Lodge and engages in several philanthropic activities. Currently, Dan is a member of the President’s Council at UNA. He contributed personally and professionally to a variety of projects that led the transformation of the UNA campus (e.g., campaigns for the ROTC Commemorative Garden; Pedestrian Walkways; Smith Bell Tower; Harrison Entrance and Plaza; and the George H. Carrol Lion Habitat). He led the successful campaigns for Rogers Hall and Coby Hall -- providing funds for their restoration, and oversaw the restoration of these historic gems. Dan and his lovely wife Anne contributed to UNA “The Laughing Lions” a bronze statue and a 2-meter granite Japanese lantern—all located on the UNA campus. Anne and Dan have continued their individual and combined voluntary efforts and philanthropic contributions for the care and feeding of Leo III and Una (UNA’s mascot lions); the construction and maintenance of their habitat; and the conduct of an associated educational effort.
